LUNESSA

Rhythm: methodology and sources

Lunessa’s Rhythm score

Rhythm is a Lunessa-specific calculation for everyday reflection. It is not a medical measurement, diagnosis or clinically validated health score. Moon phase, weather and Premium membership do not change the score. Consult a healthcare professional when making health decisions.

How is it calculated?

The starting value is 40. Sleep contributes up to 25 points, capped at 8 hours; HRV contributes up to 15 points, capped at 70 ms; steps contribute up to 10 points, capped at 10,000. The profile/check-in contribution is (mood − 3) × 3 − (stress − 3) × 3 + (sleep answer − 3) × 2. The result is rounded and limited to 20–98. These weights and caps are product scaling choices, not medical targets, normal reference ranges or disease thresholds.

Data and missing records

Sleep is the total duration of Apple Health records read for the previous night; overlapping intervals are counted once. HRV is the mean of available SDNN readings from the last 24 hours; it is not directly interchangeable with other HRV methods. Missing measurements display “—”. The internal score may use defaults of 7 hours of sleep, 6,000 steps and 45 ms HRV when corresponding data is missing. Defaults are not actual measurements and are marked in the information screen.

Limits of recommendations and interpretations

Content-selection thresholds such as 6.5 hours of sleep or 38 ms HRV are application rules, not diagnoses or clinical reference ranges. Hourly Energy/Focus/Emotion curves are app estimates, not hourly biological measurements or medical forecasts. Moon, element and colour interpretations support personal reflection.

What do the sources support?

These sources provide general background on sleep and HealthKit measurement definitions. They do not scientifically validate Lunessa’s score weights, recommendation thresholds or Moon/colour interpretations. The AASM/SRS adult sleep consensus discusses regularly sleeping 7 or more hours; it does not establish Lunessa’s 8-hour scaling cap.
